Retirees to Sen. Johnson: Focus on Wisconsin’s Needs, Not Conspiracy Theories

Statement of Gary Mitchell, President of the Wisconsin Alliance for Retired Americans, regarding the decision of Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Ron Johnson to convene a hearing on Wednesday, December 16 about “Irregularities in the 2020 Election”:

“Senator Johnson needs to get his priorities in order and do his job for the people of Wisconsin.

“We are still in the middle of a pandemic that has killed thousands of people in Wisconsin, 92% of whom were 60 and older. People are suffering, small businesses are struggling and thousands are unemployed.

“Instead of working for us, Senator Johnson is spending his time and our tax dollars promoting baseless conspiracy theories and now holding a hearing in Washington, DC on non-existent voter fraud.

“He and every other senator know that the Electoral College voted this week and Joe Biden is our President-elect. Senator Johnson is fully aware that the election ballots in Wisconsin and all other states and the District of Columbia have been counted, in some cases re-counted, and certified. The U.S. Department of Justice has confirmed that there was no widespread voter fraud.

“Unfortunately this is the kind of stunt we’ve come to expect from Senator Johnson. He also held a hearing on unproven COVID-19 cures, allowed vaccine critics to testify, and questioned scientifically proven prevention measures like wearing masks and social distancing. This is dangerous and disappointing. The people of Wisconsin, especially our seniors, deserve better.”

  1. Just heard from Sen. Baldwin, responding to my request. Yes, she does support the Protecting the Right to Organize. She certainly does. Sen. Baldwin joined Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) in introducing the Protecting the Right to Organize (S.420) on Feb. 21, 2021. S.420 would roll back the so-called Right to Work law.

  2. Pres. Biden established a task force aimed at empowering workers a task force that will allow workers to organize & bargain with their employers. Vice President Kamala Harris will chair the task force. Marty Walsh, Secretary of Labor, will be the vice-chair of the White House Task Force on Worker Organizing & empowerment. I’m glad I voted for Biden & Harris.

  3. My thanks to the Superior (WI) Telegram, April 30, for the following: A labor rally supporting the PRO Act has planned for May 1, at the corner of Tower & Belknap. The event was organized by the Twin Ports Democratic Socialists of America, & endorsed by the Superior Federation of Labor & the Duluth Central Labor Body. The PRO Act protects workers who are trying to bring in a union. It expands employees’ rights to organize & bargain collectively. If an agreement can’t be reached, arbitration will be required. Superior’s Mayor, Jim Paine, supports the PRO Act. Sen. Johnson opposes the PRO Act.

  4. Donald Trump does not support Labor. He supports Donald Trump. Ron Johnson supports Trump. Johnson does not support Labor. Vote Johnson out of office.

  5. President Biden has broughr some excellent people into his administration. For example. Martin (Marty) Walsh, Secretary of Labor. Also, Susan Rice, Domestic Advisor. It’s a shame that we have some real dunces in Congress, like Ron Johnson.

  6. President Biden was in La Crosse Tuesday, June 28, touting his $973 billion infrastructure plan. It includes a public transit center, hybrid buses, street & road repairs, millions of new jobs for blue-collar workers & tax cuts for folks like us. We need this plan. Ron Johnson sure doesn’t support it, I support it.

  7. Janesville is about to lose 150 jobs. That’s because the private-equity firm Open-Gate Capital bought Hufcor Manufacturing & now wants to stop all production & move Hufcor to Mexico. Members of IUE-CWA 84811 are standing together in an effort to stop this corporate greed. Just another example of corporate greed & why we voted for President Biden who supports Labor.

  8. U.S. Representatives Carolyn Maloney & Nancy Pelosi released recently a report analyzing the finances of 14 the world’s largest drug corporations. The report found that the corporations have spent $56 million more on stock buybacks, dividends to investors & other forms of executive compensation than on research & development in recent years. One company, Amgen, spent almost six times as much on buybacks, dividends & executive compensation as it did on R & D in 2018. From 2016 to 2020, compensation for the 14 corporations top executives totaled $3.2 billion with annual compensation growing by 14% over that five-year period. Also, many drug companies spent a large portion of their R & D budget on finding ways to suppress generic & biosimilar competition while raising their prices. HR3, the Elijah E Cummings Lower Drug Prices Now Act would address many of the findings in the report by empowering Medicare to negotiate directly with the corporations. My thanks to the Alliance for Retired Americans for this information

  9. Ron Johnson has done nothing to get our people out of Afghanistan.
He has done nothing to stop the spread of covid 19.
And he certainly did nothing to pass Biden’s $3.5 trillion budget.
And he’s done nothing to get my vote.

  10. I am on Social Security & if I do not receive my Social Security as scheduled, I will hold Ron Johnson & his political party responsible. What they’re proposing is irresponsible.

  11. Ron Johnson has done nothing to help folks like us. Instead, he supported sending our jobs overseas, gave his rich friends tax breaks & gave himself tax breaks. VOTE HIM OUT.

  12. Ron Johnson I nothing more than a Trump lackey, who is nothing more than a lackey of Putin. I don’t trust any of them. I believe that Trump has sold out the country!
